The power of Dames' networking pays off again! Nancy Baggett (DC) reached out to Barbara Pool Fenzl (Phoenix) to set up a lavender demonstration/book signing while Nancy was in town to present the keynote at the U.S. Lavender Growers Conference. Barbara put her in touch with Phoenix Chapter President Candy Lesher, who connected her to local restaurateur Pat Christofolo. Pat invited Nancy to teach a culinary lavender class at Botanica her food, art, kitchen and garden market at her beautiful Farm at South Mountain in Phoenix. Candy served as Nancy's class assistant. The event was so popular, Candy is planning a follow-up Botanica class featuring Nancy's recipes from The Art of Cooking with Lavender.
Golnaz Feiz accepted a senior catering sales executive position with The Westfields Marriott in Chantilly, VA. She started work on Feb 14. Congratulations!
Tracy Stannard opened Soapstone, a neighborhood market, café and bar, last autumn at 4465 Connecticut Avenue, NW, DC.
It wasn't exactly a Dames sanctioned event, but there were so many of us in one place, we had a meeting. Dames from DC, Philadelphia and Chicago joined Patti Ravenscroft on one of her Delicious Connections culinary adventures. This one was to indulge in truffles and foie gras in the Dordogne region of France for a week in late January. Here we are with our sweet truffle-hunting sow, Chippy (only girls have successful sniffers), and the only Perigord-pointing porcine in the Dordogne.
LDEI's M.F.K. Fisher Awards for Excellence in Culinary Writing is accepting submissions for works by women, Dame or non-Dame, from three categories ─ book, print and internet ─ published in 2016 and that are no longer than 2000 words. They must be non-fiction and may include analytical pieces, autobiographical explorations and forays into culinary history. The deadline for submissions is March 31, 2017. Nancy Baggett was the Keynote Speaker at the 2017 U. S. Lavender Growers Conference in Mesa, AZ on Jan. 27. She spoke on how to create tempting recipes featuring culinary lavender and shared research and techniques from her new cookbook, The Art of Cooking with Lavender. She also conducted a lavender tasting workshop for members.

Robyn Webb's latest cookbook, The Perfect Diabetes Food Collection captured the prestigious World Gourmand Award in the category of Best in Health and Nutrition for the U.S. The book will go on to compete in China this spring for Best In The World.

Janis McLean was pleased to be part of Susan Stamberg's annual Thanksgiving story on NPR about Mama Stamberg's cranberry relish. As executive chef at Sound Bites Cafe at NPR, Janis surprised Susan by slipping in the zesty condiment to the cafe's salad bar. Susan came back down the next day and interviewed Janis and others for part of her iconic holiday piece.
