Message from the President

Dear Sister Dames,

I so look forward to seeing so many of you this Thursday night at the reception at RIS restaurant with Anne Willan. Yet another opportunity awaits on Saturday night at our chapter's Welcome to Our Nation's Capital reception for our visiting IACP Dames. We will have a fabulous Dame-to-Dame networking and just flat-out fun evening when we gather during the annual IACP conference. Dutch-treat dinner follows at Brasserie Beck. There is still time to sign up for all of the IACP events. Details below. What a week!

New member nominations are in. The board will vote to accept members at our next meeting. Then we look forward to welcoming our newest Dames at our Spring General Membership Meeting at Carmine's on June 1st. Thanks to the New Member Committee headed by Claire Gill for all its work.

The single slate of 2015-16 board of director nominees will be sent out shortly. In advance, thank you to all who have stepped forward to serve on our board and commit to taking part in the governance of our organization.

A big thanks to Kate Jansen and her committee for all that they have done to solicit and organize board nominations this year. Board succession has been, and continues to be, an issue in our organization. Please, look ahead. When will it be your time to step up and take a leadership role in our chapter? We always need committee chairs and members to help fulfill our chapter's mission. Let Kate or another board member know of your interest and plans. We welcome your participation. It is never too early to make your desire to participate known!

Warmly,

Drew Faulkner

President

Chef Aulie has developed a menu that highlights her Thai cultural and culinary background while embracing the sophisticated flavors, cooking techniques, and rich presentations of a variety of cuisines. Her cooking is not about fusion or melding; it's about mixing and matching flavor profiles of the different dishes for a dining experience unlike any other in DC.

The presentation will also feature an overview of the wine program, which is dedicated to French varietals, offering perfect pairings with the various categories of Southeast Asian cuisine on the Mama Rouge menus. So I'm delighted that IACP is offering special member-only rates to all LDEI members who would like to attend its annual conference, March 27-30 in Washington, D.C. If you've never been to an IACP conference, now's the time! You'll find likeminded people and learn about everything from the craft of food writing, branding strategies, self-publishing and food photography to putting your values to work in the community and so much more. José Andrés is Saturday's keynote speaker. For more information, visit www.iacp.com. If you'd like to take advantage of the member rate, please contact IACP executive director Meredith Deeds at Meredith@iacp.com for the registration code. Cynthia Glover
