Dear Sister Dames,

As we approach the end of this membership year,  I wish to extend  many thanks to all of you for the time and effort you put in to make it a success. It has been a fantastic team effort to put together so many great programs, a stellar LDEI conference, a successful fundraiser...the list could go on forever. I am so very grateful.

As a Dame, you are given the opportunity to give back to the community in many different forms in the company of like-minded pros. This includes giving your time, talents and tax-deductible donations to our organization. My one request, as I step down from my two-year tenure as president, is that each one of you make a concerted effort to continue to support our chapter's two-pronged mission as prescribed in the bylaws of:
1)Education. The Chapter is dedicated to furthering the knowledge, understanding, and appreciation of food, beverage and hospitality.
2)Philanthropy. The Chapter is dedicated to raising and disbursing funds for scholarships, grants, and other approved projects of the Chapter. The Chapter is dedicated to mentoring individuals who are entering or seeking to expand their knowledge in these fields.

Please join me in welcoming this year's board comprising Janet Yu (President), Julia Rutland (First VP Membership), Bonnie Benwick (Second VP Education and Community Outreach), Suzanne DeGalan (Recording Secretary), Eileen Dykes (Financial Officer,) Kristen Hartke (Communications Secretary), Alison Ricketts, Summer Whitford, Laurie Bell, Polly Wiedmaier (Directors) and Susan Lutz (Alternate), Bette Alberts (nominated for 2nd VP). These women have graciously agreed to help guide us to fulfill our mission. And merci beaucoup to out-going board members Jessica Botta, Susan James, Theresa Morrison, Dianne Murphy, Diane Neas and Marie Ostrosky for their excellent service on the board this past year.

Last, but not least, a special thank you to Drew Faulkner, past president,  for  her invaluable guidance these past two years and to Katherine Newell Smith for producing this beautiful  bimonthly newsletter for our membership to stay informed.

It truly has been an honor and a privilege to serve as your president.

Salut,

Ann Stratte
President

DAMES NEWS

Author Jen Lin-Liu was a surprise guest at the Dames Who Read dinner and discussion about her book, On the Noodle Road: from Beijing to Rome, with Love and Pasta. The evening was hosted by Janet Cam with prodigious assistance from new member Sheila Crye, who also secured Ms. Lin-Liu's presence, at the home of Katherine Newell Smith. The group was treated to a pasta and dumpling demo. Several became quite proficient in rolling the dough disks and stuffing and pleating the dumplings. The spectrum of cuisines along the "noodle road" were represented by mezze,  pasta with arribiata sauce and dumplings filled with lamb and butternut squash.

Debra Moser and her husband, Mitch Berliner hosted a fascinating tour and tasting at Meat Crafters, the only USDA-licensed facility to cure meats in the state of Maryland. On Thursday, June 15, the Dames-only group toured the facility, learned about the dry curing process and sampled many delicious hand crafted charcuterie including duck breast prosciutto, salamis and Skinny Salamis.  It was a wonderful tour and we thank Debra and Mitch both for their hospitality and for donating their portion of the proceeds to Manna.

Editor's Note:

ENTRE NEWS is published on the first and  third Wednesday of each month.  It is on hiatus during the month of August. Deadline for HURRAH! and other news is the second and fourth Thursday of each month. Please send a BRIEF paragraph with your professional and personal news that you would like your sister Dames to know about in HURRAH!

HURRAH! is not meant as an advertising opportunity for a cooking class or event, rather it offers a shout out to members for recent accomplishments and honors.   Please submit your HURRAH to kns4pr@erols.com in a succinct 75 words of less.

OF INTEREST offers Dames a chance to let their sister chapter members know about events they are involved in that might be of interest to a majority of the membership.  Its function is not to promote products, cooking classes, culinary trips, etc., rather to alert members to public programs that might be of professional interest, especially if Dames are featured.   We request OF INTEREST entries to be no longer than 150 words. Less is always better.

JOB OPPS can open Dames networks to employment opportunities.

Send information to Entre News Editor Katherine Newell Smith kns4pr@erols.com

Thank you for you continued interest and participation.
