Les Dames d’Escoffier invites you to Sacred Foods of Israel How does religion contribute to and define food? Join Les Dames d’Escoffier DC ‘s Global Culinary Initiative for a panel discussion of the Sacred Foods of Israel, including the religious symbolism of food, Sephardic traditions and modern-day Israeli food. The event will include an Israeli culinary tasting menu inspired by our panelists’ cookbooks. Speakers are members of Les Dames DC. Vered Guttman writes the Modern Manna food blog for Haaretz and the Ethnic Market Scout series for the Washington Post Food Section. She is the chef and owner Cardamom & Mint Catering, specializing in Mediterranean and Middle Eastern cuisine. Joan Nathan is the author of ten award-winning cookbooks. Her most recent book, Quiches, Kugels, and Couscous: My Search for Jewish Cooking in France, was named one of the ten best cookbooks of 2010 by NPR, Food and Wine, and Bon Appétit Sheilah Kaufman is the award-winning author of 26 cookbooks. She is a cookbook editor, cooking instructor, culinary lecturer, food hstorian, and columnist. Her most recent book is A Taste of Turkish Cuisine (2015).
