Grants

The Les Dames d’Escoffier Washington, D.C. Regional Chapter is dedicated to empowering the next generation of culinary and hospitality professionals while also supporting impactful community initiatives. Our robust grants and scholarships program provides financial assistance to individuals and organizations that demonstrate a passion for food, beverage, and hospitality, as well as a commitment to advancing education and philanthropy.

Each year, we award grants to tax-exempt charitable or educational organizations that are making a significant difference in the community through food and hospitality. These grants support initiatives that promote community health, sustainable food practices, and culinary education. By funding programs that align with our mission, we aim to foster a thriving and resilient food community in the D.C. area.

Today was our first day our Horizons Middle School students attended Modern Stone Age Kitchen. They made their own cutting utensils by chipping rock, and then prepared sausage with Dr. Bill Schindler, all thanks to Les Dames d’Escoffier.

2026 Grant Recipients

Food Justice DMV ($5000)

Food Justice DMV is an all-volunteer collective that delivers culturally appropriate food directly to the homes of over 13,000 undocumented and asylum-seeking migrant families in the DMV—many of whom are currently in hiding. Since its founding in 2020, the organization has delivered over one million boxes of food, diapers, formula, and sanitary products. Approximately 90% of recipients are women with children. This grant will fund 332 home deliveries, reaching an estimated 1,660 people.

Cultivating Community ($5000)

Cultivating Community is a Prince George’s County-based food sovereignty nonprofit that is launching a workforce development program for women abuse survivors. Participants in the “Cultivating Independence: Survivor Farm & Cottage Food Workforce Program,” will receive hands-on training in urban agriculture, food preservation, and cottage food business practices—equipping them with practical skills for personal food security and supplemental income. The pilot, which runs from August through November 2026, will serve 12 to 15 women using a trauma-informed, community-based model.

City Blossoms ($5000)

City Blossoms is a Washington, D.C.-based nonprofit (est. 2008) that transforms unused land in underserved neighborhoods into youth-centered community gardens. Their Community Green Spaces program served 1,493 children, youth, and adults in 2025 through free drop-in programming, school field trips, cooking days with fresh garden produce, and community events. Gardens are located in Shaw, Columbia Heights, Brightwood Park, Fort Stanton, and Lincoln Heights.

Root to Table ($5000)

Root to Table is a Virginia-based 501(c)(3) that uses immersive farm-to-table events to connect small-scale and beginning women farmers with buyers, chefs, and the public. Their 2026 flagship event, “Salute to Women,” will run as two sessions—Northern Virginia (August 23) and Central Virginia (August 30)—serving approximately 300 participants, 60 to 70% of whom are women. Our grant will support marketing to recruit minority women farmers, structured networking, and evaluation.
