Tour Hampton National Historic Site with Lunch following at the Milton Inn September 19, 20157/29/2015 Explore three centuries of dining, entertaining and gardens at Hampton Mansion, located in Towson, Maryland. Hampton National Historic Site commemorates American social, cultural, and economic history through seven generations of the Ridgely family. The 63-acre park includes the mansion, outbuildings, a farm, dairy, standing slave quarters, and formal terraced gardens. Join the Curator for a “behind-the scenes” tour of the elegant Georgian mansion that will highlight the lavishly furnished dining room and the kitchen. The dining room reflects the lifestyle of Maryland Governor Ridgely (1760-1829), a man of wealth and sophistication said to “keep the best table in America.” The kitchen includes the original 1790s brick stew stove and a mid- 19th century wall oven.The Horticulturalist will lead a tour of the gardens that reflects 200 years of landscape architecture. Parterres planted with brilliant annuals and trees dating from before the Revolution to the early 20th century are highlights. Chef Brian Boston will prepare a delicious lunch at the nearby Milton Inn (ca.1740) http://miltoninn.com/.
