TIME: 1:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. Join sister Dames and friends at the Capital Area Food Bank where we will take a tour and learn from CEO Nancy Roman about hunger in our area and support their important work filling in gaps in the hunger safety net. We will be part of a "Face Hunger" simulation and education session, and then we will help CAFB employees and volunteers pack and/or sort donated food. All of these tasks are considered light/medium labor and typically involves standing up for up to three hours. Please bring a warm layer and wear close-toed shoes. LOCATION: 4900 Puerto Rico Ave NE. This project is metro accessible via the Brookland Metro station on the Red Line (Call the Volunteer Shuttle Line at 202-327-1929 if you need a shuttle from the Brookland/CUA Metro) RSVP: We have 20 volunteer slots to fill, so please bring a friend and RSVP to Aviva Goldfarb, [email protected] The Capital Area Food Bank is the largest organization in the Washington metro area working to solve hunger and its companion problems: chronic undernutrition, heart disease, and obesity. By partnering with 444 community organizations in DC, MD, and VA, as well as delivering food directly to hard-to-reach, under-served areas, the CAFB provides 540,000 people annually with access to good, healthful food. That translates to 12% of our region's mothers, fathers, sons, daughters, sisters, brothers, and grandparents.
